Frequently Asked Questions

What is keratin?
Keratin is the primary protein of the skin, hair and nails. This natural substance gives hair the ability to return to its original healthy, shiny and smooth state.

Can the keratin treatment be applied on virgin, permed, relaxed, permanently straightened, coloured, bleached or highlighted hair?
Yes, the keratin treatment can be applied to ANY hair and over ANY previously chemically treated hair.

Is this treatment a permanent straightener?
No, it may soften the curl but your hair will not be permanently straight after this treatment. Some of our clients after having the Brazilian blow-dry keratin treatment notice that their hair appears less curly/wavy or even quite straight. However, other clients do not notice much change in the curl. For this reason, we do not say that the Brazilian blow-dry will make the hair straight. This treatment is to make the hair less frizzy. Our Brazilian keratin treatment is semi-permanent and will wash out of the hair with time. Some people have called it a permanent blow-dry. This is because when you blow-dry your hair after this treatment, your blow-dry will last much longer than it used to. You will still need to blow-dry your hair if you would like your hair to be straight, but the amount of time required to style your hair will decrease. When the hair is blow-dried using a brush and a blow-dryer it will straighten out more easily. Please note that if the hair is not blow-dried with a brush, but instead is simply left to air-dry, then it will still revert to its curly/wavy natural state.

Can I have the treatment every month?
Yes, the treatment can be re-applied after 30 days.

When can I colour my hair?
Hair can be coloured either 2 days before the service or alternatively 2 days after the treatment but we cannot do both colour and Brazilian Blow-dry treatment on the same day. Please note that if you have coloured your hair, this treatment can make the colour fade.

How long does the treatment last?
It will last two to four months, depending on the hair type. The Brazilian Blow-dry lasts longest on chemically treated hair like coloured or relaxed. On virgin hair the results will last longer after the second or third application. Finally the treatment fades progressively as hair is washed. It will last longer if you wash your hair once or twice per week as apposed to washing your hair every day.

How long should I wait before washing my hair after the treatment?
Unlike other treatments with this Brazilian Blow-dry you will not have to wait several days before you can wash your hair. Once the treatment is complete you can shampoo and treat your hair as normal on the same day. You also no longer have to avoid the rain or gym. You can tie you hair back wear a ponytail, clips or a hat. All these were not possible before the formula was improved.

After Brazilian Blow-dry

Will swimming affect my keratin treatment?
No, as long as you shampoo your hair directly after swimming, to remove any chlorine or salt from the hair.

How long does the process take?
Usually between 2-4 hours depending on hair length & type.

What shampoo must be used after the treatment? After the treatment you will need to use a shampoo and conditioner which is free of Sodium Chloride and Sulphate and which we have available. This shampoo will not strip the Keratin from the hair and will help to maximise the longevity of the keratin treatment.
Once the treatment is complete, if required you can wash your hair after 30 min, but you must rinse the hair for 3-5 min before shampooing.
Clients with a sensitivity to smells may need to shampoo their hair once or twice with a normal shampoo (i.e. containing sodium chloride) to reduce any unwanted smell.

Will the Brazilian Blow-dry work on very curly?
Yes, this treatment will help make the hair less frizzy but please note that it does not make the hair straight. If you like your hair to be straight, it will need to blow-died e.g. with a brush to put pull the curl out.

Can you do Afro Caribbean hair?
Unfortunately we cannot do Afro Caribbean hair. Our stylists are only trained in doing European hair.

Can I have a keratin treatment if I am pregnant?
The manufacturer Fabriq / Kerastraight states "Our treatments are built on conditioners and proteins and do not contain formaldehyde or any of its derivatives. If you are pregnant or nursing and have any concerns as to the suitability of our treatments, we would recommend you consult with your doctor prior to use".
Please also note that the product has a strong smell and it is possible that during pregnancy some clients may generally find certain smells too strong to tolerate.

Is the keratin treatment safe for children?
The keratin treatment is safe for children ages 6 and up, but it can take 2-4 hours to complete, so some children may find it difficult to sit still for such a long period.

Can I tie my hair back or wear a ponytail?
Yes, once the treatment is complete your can treat your hair as normal

When should I have my next keratin treatment?
After 3-4 months or as needed but can be re-applied after 30 days.

Can I use hair-spray, gel, mousse, or any other hair products on my hair straight after the treatment?
Yes, you can use styling products in your hair once the service is complete.

Is the Brazilian keratin treatment you use formaldehyde free?
Yes it is 100% free of aldehyde/formaldehyde and is independently passed by the UK/EU Health and Safety.

What is the difference between Permanent Hair Straightening (Japanese treatment) and the Brazilian treatment?
The Brazilian blow-dry does not completely straighten the hair like the permanent straightening treatment. With the Brazilian treatment the hair can be left to dry naturally curly or wavy. The Brazilian blow-dry just softens whatever curl or wave you have. If the hair is air-dried without a hair dryer, it will still have wave or curl but no frizz. With the Brazilian blow-dry you can also blow-dry your hair straight but you will be able to do it in a fraction of the time it would normally take you. The Brazilian blow-dry treatment is not permanent, instead it is semi-permanent. Unlike permanent hair straightening the Brazilian does not alter the hair's internal structure and will wash out of the hair with time. The hair will gradually return to its original shape and can last up to 4 months.

The Permanent Hair Straightening treatment defrizzes and straightens the hair by changing the hairs texture and makes the change permanent. For more information about permanent hair straightening please see: Permanent Hair Straightening FAQs

Will it be easy for me to style my hair? This treatment is not designed to make the hair straight. You will still need to blowdry your hair if you like your hair to be straight, but the amount of time required to style your hair will decrease. Taking care of your hair after the Keratin Treatment is applied is effortless. Others require some blow drying and minimum styling time. This treatment helps hair against humidity, rain and sweat.

Does the price include a haircut?
If you would also like to have a haircut it would cost an additional £22.00.

If I'm having a Brazilian Blow-dry, do I need to come in for a skin allergy test first?
You do not need to come in for a skin allergy test for the Brazilian Blow-dry. However, if you would like to speak to one of the hairdressers about your hair, please feel free to book a free consultation by phoning us on 0191 2619651 or you can book a free consultation online by choosing one of the stylists from the home page.

Which keratin treatment do you use?
There are several Brazilian keratin treatments e.g. Fabriq / Kerastraight, Global Keratin, La Brasiliana, Nanokeratin, Nanosmooth and Marcia Teixeira . We have chosen to use Fabriq (previously known as Kerastraight) because it is 100% free of aldehyde/formaldehyde, it gives excellent results and also for its light and pleasant fragrance.
